I've had the fortune of knowing Summer and Alberto throughout their engagement. I'm so honored to have been their photographer for their Fall engagement and their Spring wedding.
Here are a few of my favorites from their big day!
well folks... I'm not really sure how to start about this shoot.
I love my clients. I don't know how it happens but somehow I really just get a chance to work with some of the loveliest people!
When Ross and Jamie told me about where they were thinking of having their engagement shoot... my brain started turning and the three of us planned one awesome day in the mountains. First off, we found THIS badass cabin, with a view to boot.
We split the day up like this:
Morning - Photo shoot on a mountain with morning light
Afternoon - Cabin shoot with champagne
Late Afternoon - Downtown Asheville
Dinner & Beer (thanks Wicked Weed!)
Evening - Night Shot
Thank you Ross and Jamie for not only being amazing models, but also being great company. I really enjoyed spending my day with you!
Imagine meeting the ONE... when you are a baby. Your parents are friends and so the two of you meet. Maybe the memories are distant. Dinners together at the table... maybe you shared the toys in the living room... and once for certain.. you actually walked down the aisle together as flower girl and ring bearer.
But alas. Your parents are both in the military and you both move to different states. Many years pass and somehow you manage to reconnect. The spell had already been cast. The sparks had already flown. It took you two being in the same room together again to sense it. And so when you finally met again... your destiny was more clear than ever.
This is the story of Vanessa and José. A story like no other.
We met on a sunny morning in South Charlotte. Special thanks to all of the friends and family members that helped make this day possible. Your support, your smiles and your love for this couple mean so much.

The dream began when I sat and pondered how to really break some headway in the Charlotte wedding industry. How to stand out? Just be yourself... have some fun! Realize the dream. Pick vendors I adore and we'll build a set from scratch. It can't be that hard, right? Let's just run with it... let's be prepared... and leave some things open. Wake up with more creative energy then you have every had before, and watch the performance unfold before your eyes. Coordinate, organize, follow through, disorganize, make up your mind! Pick your colors. Pick your flowers. Find some cool people. Dress them up and ACTION. woah. I can't believe we pulled it off.
With some luck, and some connections, I happened upon an empty warehouse (formerly the Carolina Actors Studio Theater) to use for the shoot. I sketched out a set and with the help of the Amélie's design team (Brenda Ische and Bobbie Puckett), we put it all together. Special thanks as well to Heather Marie Pottier from The Whimsical Rose (vintage China rentals) for not only her beautiful china, but also for assisting throughout the day, Julie Ford from Jimmy Blooms Floral Design for the AMAZING floral arrangements, bouquets and boutonnières, Hollie Burgess from Beautiful Idiot Clothing (Kimonos and bowties), Patrice Shannon with Lovely by Patrice Make Up (and hair), Kyle from Olde York Station (stationary/calligraphy), Sunnie Boyd for her assistance as well as the lovely staff at Amélie's French Bakery.
I call myself an artist. Photography has become my craft. It has taken me a long time to build the confidence to call myself an artist. I know I am not the best.. but I strive to be. I know I am not very well connected.. but every day I am meeting new people who inspire me. I do not really call myself a dreamer (my dreams are pretty darn weird so no thank you), but I do call myself a doer. I am all about the journey at this point and man does that horizon look lovely.
Thank you for tuning in to these blog posts, your support means everything.
This styled shoot was born out of an idea and a pretty big one at that, one of much social and political importance. The idea that Charlotte brides these days do not look like the ones in the magazines of yesteryear. They are diverse, they have diverse friends. Bridesmaids are no longer the same. Girls have guy friends. Girls have girl friends that dress masculine and vice versa. In my dream world, they are all welcome. The theme, was a girl with a motley crew of friends. Johanna is our bride, and her friends David (@davidzcox), Heather (@heatherhimes from Dust & Ashes), Brianna K (@bee_kay89) and Sarah (@sweetsarahpastry) were the lovely bride's maids and men.
Instead of a bridal shoot or a staged wedding, we chose a different scene: the bride getting ready. To me, this is one of the moments during the big day where the Bride feels comfortable, she's among friends and some of the most beautiful moments are created. The groom, albeit an important component for the day was not needed to showcase these amazing vendors.
